Two curious kittens are snuggled in a purple bed. The kitten on the left, the boy, is a gray and white tabby cat. The other is a calico girl.

A Himalayan cat may look unhappy, but she’s really a sweetheart. She has lilac points and orange and black calico coloring. She’s pekinese-faced. The Himalayan is a cross between a Siamese and a Persian. They are fondly known as a Himmy.

One of several breeds native to Thailand (formerly known as Siam), the Siamese cat became one of the most popular breeds in Europe and North America in the 20th century. The modern Siamese is characterized by blue almond-shaped eyes, a triangular head shape, large ears, an elongated, slender, and muscular body, and point coloration. The International Cat Association describes the breed as social, intelligent, and playful into adulthood, often enjoying a game of fetch. Siamese tend to seek human interaction and also like companionship from other cats.
